Celebrity Name : John Denver
Celebrity Real Name : Henry John Deutschendorf Jr.
Date of Birth : December 31, 1943
Birth Location : Aspen Colorado
Biography of Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. :
John Denver (December 31, 1943 – October 12, 1997), born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr., was an American folk singer-songwriter and folk rock musician who was one of the biggest selling artists of the 1970s. In his lifetime, he recorded and released some 300 songs, about half of which he had written, and served as the Poet Laureate of Colorado.
Denver’s songs were suffused with a deep and abiding kinship with the natural world. Songs such as “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, “Leaving on a Jet Plane”, “Thank God I’m A Country Boy”, and “Rocky Mountain High” are popular all over the world. Often singing and writing folk songs about the western lifestyle, the human condition, and planet Earth, he was named the Poet Laureate of his home state of Colorado in 1977. Denver has been commonly referred to and nicknamed “The Poet For the Planet”, “Mother Nature’s Son” (based on The Beatles song he renditioned) and “A Song’s Best Friend”.
Early years Life career :
Denver was born in Roswell, New Mexico. His father, Henry Deutschendorf, Sr., was an Air Force officer and flight instructor, and his family moved around the American Southwest and South a lot while Denver was growing up. Denver was a life long Christian, raised Presbyterian and converted Lutheran, but often said he shared many beliefs with Zen Buddhists. In his memoirs, Denver cited that as a child he had some troubles at home, most notably with his father.
As a teenager, he received a 1910 Gibson acoustic guitar from his grandmother, and polished his skills enough to be able to perform at local clubs by the time he was in college. Adopting the surname “Denver” after his favorite city, he dropped out of Texas Tech University in 1964, and moved to Los Angeles, California. Denver sang in the smoky underground folk clubs in L.A., and in 1965 joined the Chad Mitchell Trio, a folk group later renamed “The Mitchell Trio” and then “Denver, Boise, and Johnson”.
In 1969, he abandoned the band life to pursue a solo career, and released his first album for RCA Records, Rhymes and Reasons. It was not a huge hit, but it contained “Leaving On A Jet Plane”, which became a number one hit for Peter, Paul and Mary two years later. He recorded two more albums in 1970, Whose Garden Was This? and Take Me to Tomorrow. Although these albums were not as successful as those that followed, they would all be certified gold by the RIAA, and later considered to be some of Denver’s most revered work.
Death :
On October 12, 1997, Denver was killed when the Long-EZ aircraft he was piloting ran out of fuel just off the coast of California at Pacific Grove.
The Long-EZ that Denver was flying is a two-place experimental aircraft, designed in the 1970s by Burt Rutan. Featuring tandem seats, when being flown solo it was to be flown from the rear seat. Denver, like many EZ pilots, was flying solo from the front.
Denver apparently lost control of the aircraft while attempting to manipulate the fuel selector handle, which is located in the rear cockpit, after running out of fuel in one tank. Witnesses stated that the plane made a sudden pitch-down plunge into the water, leading to speculation that, in reaching around to the rear, Denver bumped or kicked the side-stick control.

Celebrity Name : Jean Arthur
Celebrity Real Name : Gladys Greene
Date of Birth : October 17, 1900
Birth Location : lattsburgh, New York
Biography of Gladys Greene :
Jean Arthur (October 17, 1900 – June 19, 1991) was an American actress. Born Gladys Georgianna Greene in Plattsburgh, New York, she became one of Hollywood’s favorite screen comediennes.
Early Life Career :
The daughter of a photographer, Arthur became a fashion model early in life, then went on to work in films. She debuted in the silent film Cameo Kirby in 1923, directed by John Ford. Whatever self-confidence she may have built up was dashed when she was removed from the starring role of “Temple of Venus” (1923) after a few days of shooting. It was the first of many disappointments for the young actress, but she persevered and, by 1928, was being given co-starring roles at Paramount Pictures. (1928 was also the year she married her first husband, Julian Ancker, which was annulled after only one day.) She was selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars in 1929 and briefly romanced David O. Selznick.
Arthur’s curious voice, best described as being earnestly squeaky, ensured her work in talkies, but she was seldom used to full advantage in the early 30s. Dissatisfied with the vapid ingenue, society debutante, and damsel-in-distress parts she was getting (though she was chillingly effective as a murderess in 1930’s “The Greene Murder Case”), Arthur left films for Broadway in 1932 to appear in ‘Foreign Affairs’. She starred in several Broadway productions and earned positive reviews. While back East she married Frank Ross, later a producer of some of her films.
In 1934, she signed with Columbia Pictures, where, at long last, her gift for combining fast-paced verbal comedy with truly moving pathos was fully utilised. In 1935 she starred opposite Edward G. Robinson in the gangster farce The Whole Town’s Talking, and her popularity began to rise.
She was lucky enough to work with some of the most accomplished directors in Hollywood: Frank Capra (who called her his favourite actress and directed her in “Mr Deeds Goes to Town” in 1936, “You Can’t Take It With You” in 1938 and “Mr Smith Goes to Washington” in 1939); John Ford (“The Whole Town’s Talking” in 1935); and Howard Hawks (“Only Angels Have Wings” in 1939).
She was also one of the final four contenders for the role of Scarlett O’Hara in “Gone With the Wind” (1939).
Mercurial in her attitudes, terribly nervous both before and after filming a scene – she often threw up after her scene was finished – and so painfully shy that it was sometimes difficult for her to show up, she was equally fortunate that her co-workers were patient and understanding with her. She also looked better when photographed from the right side of her face, so, once she became a star, that was inevitably written into her contracts. Arthur could become hysterical when besieged by fans, and aloof and non-responsive to reporters.
In 1943, she received her only Oscar nomination for “The More the Merrier” (1943), the second of her two great 40s films directed by George Stevens (“The Talk of the Town” from 1942 was the first, Stevens referring to her as one of the greatest comediennes the screen had ever seen).
Because she often came to blows with studio head Harry Cohn over her parts and her salary, she only earned $50,000 for “The Talk of the Town”, while her co-stars Cary Grant and Ronald Colman both earned exactly double that amount.
After her contract with Columbia ended in 1944, she celebrated by running through the streets, shouting “I’m free, I’m free!” She signed to star in the 1946 Broadway play ‘Born Yesterday’ – only to succumb to a debilitating case of stage fright, forcing the producers to replace her at virtually the last moment with Judy Holliday.
After the forgettable comedy “The Impatient Years” in 1944, Arthur made only two more films: Billy Wilder’s “A Foreign Affair” (1948), and George Stevens’ classic “Shane” (1953; she was 50 years old during filming). She also played the lead in Leonard Bernstein’s 1950 musical version of ‘Peter Pan’, playing the Eternal Boy when she was almost fifty. Her co-star was Boris Karloff as Captain Hook. That same year she divorced Frank Ross; never remarried, no children. [wikipedia]

Celebrity Name : Jackie Chan
Celebrity Real Name : Chan Kwong-Sung
Date of Birth : April 7, 1954
Birth Location : Hong Kong, China
Biography of Chan Kwong-Sung:
Chan Kong-Sang known as Jackie Chan (born on April 7, 1954 in Hong Kong, China) is a Chinese martial artist, actor, director, producer, stuntman and singer.
Chan is one of the most well-known names in Kung fu and action movies worldwide, known for his acrobatic fighting style, comic timing, and use of props including furniture and other set pieces as improvised weapons. Chan has appeared in over a hundred movies, and is one of the most recognizable Asian movie stars in the world. He has a star on the Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong as well as the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Chan is also a major pop star in Asia, and has released over 100 song titles in 20 albums since 1984. He sings in many different languages including English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese. He also sings many of the theme songs to his films.
Early Life and Career :
Jackie Chan was born in Hong Kong, China (now part of People’s Republic of China). Chan is the son of Lee-Lee and Charles Chan, who emigrated to Canberra, Australia in 1960 as refugees from the Chinese Civil War. Prior to leaving China, Lee-Lee and Charles had worked as a maid and butler, respectively, for the French ambassador to Hong Kong. Chan’s Chinese name at birth was Chan Kong-Sang, meaning “born in Hong Kong”.
Before he adopted the Westernised name, “Jackie”, he was known by a variety of other nicknames. As he was a heavy baby, (12 lb at birth, he claims to have spent 12 months in the womb), his mother nicknamed him “Pao Pao” (meaning “Cannonball”). Later, while studying at the Peking Opera School he was known as Yuen Lo, as a mark of respect to his master, Yu Jim-Yuen.
In his early stuntman and acting career (prior to New Fist of Fury in 1976) he was known as Chen Yueng Lung (or Chen Yuen Lung). It may be an odd coincidence that Sammo Hung’s Opera School name was similar - Yuen Lung. He was thereafter known as “Jackie”, named by his Australian co-workers when living in Australia in 1976-1977[1]. Working on a building site alongside a labourer named Jack, Chan’s co-workers nicknamed him “Little Jack”, and later shortened this to Jackie. Because his father’s family name was originally Fong and was changed only when arriving in Hong Kong, Chan’s Chinese name was changed in family records years later to “Fong Si Lung”[2]. He has also been listed as “Sing Lung” (meaning “young dragon” or “to become a dragon”), particularly in relation to his music and it may be no coincidence that his character in the film Fearless Hyena was called “Shing Lung”.
Albums :
* With All One’s Heart, (2002) * The Accidental Spy (OST), (2001) * Asian Pop Gold, (2000) * Gorgeous (OST), (1999) * Best of JC, (1999) * Who Am I? Trivia Skills :
* While not afraid to do his own stunts, he confesses that, like many, he is afraid of needles and hates taking shots. Unlike injuries that may come from a failed stunt, with a shot he “knows that it’s coming.”
* Though Chan’s willingness to do his own stunts was originally the trademark feature of his movies, he has sustained various injuries over the years which render him incapable of performing certain stunts. He tries to avoid stunts where he may suffer severe head trauma due to a near fatal incident that occurred while shooting Armour of God. He has also broken his left ankle so many times, he can no longer rely on it while pushing for a jump and must use his right foot instead. Over the years, he has been forced to use body doubles on various occasions. He has also broken his fingers, toes, nose and ribs on numerous occasions while filming.
* His final fight with Benny Urquidez in Wheels on Meals is considered to be one of the finest fights of the movie genre.
* He knows Kung Fu, and has trained under GrandMaster Leung Ting in Wing Tsun, as well as numerous other masters in Tong Long (Mantis), Bak Mei (White Eyebrow), as well as the traditional northern Shaolin Kung Fu he learned in opera school. Jackie has also learned numerous other styles of martial arts to help his screen fighting, including Hapkido, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo and Hei Long (Under Master G.J. Torres). Jackie’s personal style is said to be a mixture of Boxing, Wing Chun, Hapkido and Judo. He stated that some of his martial arts training has been attributed to Jin Pal Kim, a Korean hapkido stylist.
* While performing his own stunts, he has broken his nose three times, his ankle, most of the fingers in his hand, both cheekbones and his skull.[wikipedia]

Celebrity Name :Jack Palance
Celebrity Real Name : Walter Palanuik
Date of Birth : February 18, 1919
Birth Location : Hazle Township, Pennsylvania, USA
Biography of Walter Palanuik :
Jack Palance, (born Volodymyr Palanyuk on February 18, 1919, in Hazle Township, Pennsylvania, USA), is an Academy Award-winning American actor.
With his rugged facial features and gravelly voice, Palance is best known to modern movie audiences as both the characters of Curly and Duke in the City Slickers movies, but his career has spanned half a century of film and television appearances.
At 87, now retired and living in California, Palance recently placed his Butler Township, Pennsylvania, Holly-Brooke Farm up for sale and its contents, his personal lifetime collection, up for auction.
Early Life and Career :
In 1947, Palance made his Broadway debut, followed three years later by his screen debut, in the movie Panic in the Streets (1950). He was quickly recognized for his skill as a character actor, receiving an Academy Award nomination for only his third film role, as Lester Blaine in Sudden Fear.
The following year, Palance was Oscar-nominated again, for his role as the evil gunfighter Jack Wilson in Shane. Several other Western roles followed, but he would also play such varied roles as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dracula, and Attila the Hun.
In 1957, Palance won an Emmy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Mountain McClintock in the Playhouse 90 production of Rod Serling’s Requiem for a Heavyweight.
While still busy making movies, in the 1980s, Palance also co-hosted (with his daughter Holly Palance), the television series Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
Appearing in Young Guns (1988) and Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) reinvigorated Palance’s career and demand for his services kept him involved in new projects each year right up until the turn of the century.
Academy Award :
Four decades after his film debut, Palance finally won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor on March 30, 1992, for his performance as cowboy Curly Washburn in the 1991 comedy City Slickers.
Stepping onstage to accept the award, the intimidatingly fit 6′ 4″ (1.93 m) actor looked down at 5′ 7″ (1.70 m) Oscar host Billy Crystal (who was also his co-star in the movie), and joked, “Billy Crystal… I crap bigger than him.” He then dropped to the floor and demonstrated his ability, at age 73, to perform one-handed push-ups.
Crystal then turned this into a running gag as at various points in the broadcast he announced that Palance was backstage on the Stairmaster; had “just bungee-jumped off the Hollywood sign”; had rendezvoused with the Space Shuttle in orbit; had fathered all the children in a production number; had been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive; and had won the New York primary election. At the end of the broadcast, Crystal told everyone he’d like to see them again “but I’ve just been informed Jack Palance will be hosting next year.” (The following year, host Crystal arrived on stage atop a giant model of the Oscar statuette, towed by Palance).
Hollywood Walk of Fame :
Palance has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6608 Hollywood Boulevard. In 1992, he was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. [wikipedia]

Celebrity Name : Jack Benny
Celebrity Real Name : Benjamin Kubelsky
Date of Birth : February 14, 1894
Birth Location : Chicago
Biography of Benjamin Kubelsky :
Jack Benny (February 14, 1894 – December 26, 1974), born Benjamin Kubelsky, was an American comedian, vaudeville performer, and radio, television, and film actor. He was one of the biggest stars in classic American radio and was also a major television personality.
Benny may have been the first standup comedian, as the term is known, as well as one of the first to work with what became the situation comedy. He was renowned for his flawless comic timing and (especially) his ability to get laughs with either a pregnant pause or a single expression. In hand with his great “rival” Fred Allen — their long-running “feud” was one of the greatest running gags in comedy history — Benny helped establish a basic palette from which comedy since has rarely deviated, no matter how extreme or experimental it has become in their wake.
Early career :
Benny grew up in Chicago and Waukegan, Illinois, the son of a Jewish saloon keeper. He began studying the violin, an instrument that would become his trademark, when he was six. By fourteen, he was playing in local dance bands as well as in his high school orchestra. After he found an opportunity to play the instrument in local theaters for $8 a week, he quit school and eventually began a career in vaudeville.
In 1911, he was playing in the same theater as the young Marx Brothers, whose mother Minnie Marx was so enchanted with Benny that she invited him to be their permanent accompanist. The plan was foiled by Benny’s parents, who refused to let their son, then seventeen, go on the road, but it was the beginning of his long friendship with Zeppo Marx. A distant cousin of the Marx Brothers was Benny’s wife Mary Livingstone.
The following year, Benny formed a vaudeville musical duo with pianist Cora Salisbury. This provoked famous violinist Jan Kubelik, who thought that the young vaudeville entertainer with a similar name (Kubelsky) would damage his reputation. Finally, Benjamin Kubelsky agreed to change his name to Ben K. Benny (sometimes spelled Bennie). He also found a new pianist, Lyman Woods. He left show business briefly in 1917 to join the Navy during World War I, but even then, he often entertained the troops. One evening, he was booed by the troops, so he began telling Navy jokes on stage. He was a big hit, and earned himself a reputation as a comedian as well as a musician.
After the war, Benny returned to vaudeville and changed his first name to Jack (purportedly after another actor named Ben Benny complained). He had several romantic encounters, including one with a dancer, Mary Kelly, whose devoutly Catholic family forced her to turn down Benny’s proposal because he was Jewish. Jack was introduced to Mary by Gracie Allen. Later on years after the split between Mary and Jack, Mary resurfaced as a dowdy fat girl and Jack gave her a part of an act of three girls. One homely, one fat and one who couldn’t sing. This lasted till at Mary Livingston’s request Mary Kelly was let go. Gracie Allen and George Burns later had Mary Kelly appear on their radio program as “Bubbles” Kelly. Her signature line on “Burns And Allen” was this. Gracie would say “Here’s Mary Kelly.” George would pause and say “Mary??? She’s big enough to be the Queen Mary.”
In 1922, he accompanied Zeppo Marx to a Passover seder where he met Sadie Marks, whom he married in 1927. (Despite the repeated references in the show, they did not meet when she, Sadie, was working in sales at May’s department store; this was a fabrication for the fictional Mary Livingstone character.) Adopting Mary Livingstone as her stage name, she became Benny’s collaborator throughout most of his career. They later adopted a daughter, Joan.[wikipedia]
