post Jackie Chan Real Name is Chan Kwong-Sung

October 24th, 2006

Filed under: Celebrity Real Name @ 10:54 am

Jackie ChanCelebrity Name : Jackie Chan

Celebrity Real Name : Chan Kwong-Sung

Date of Birth : April 7, 1954

Birth Location : Hong Kong, China

Biography of Chan Kwong-Sung:
Chan Kong-Sang known as Jackie Chan (born on April 7, 1954 in Hong Kong, China) is a Chinese martial artist, actor, director, producer, stuntman and singer.
Chan is one of the most well-known names in Kung fu and action movies worldwide, known for his acrobatic fighting style, comic timing, and use of props including furniture and other set pieces as improvised weapons. Chan has appeared in over a hundred movies, and is one of the most recognizable Asian movie stars in the world. He has a star on the Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong as well as the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Chan is also a major pop star in Asia, and has released over 100 song titles in 20 albums since 1984. He sings in many different languages including English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese. He also sings many of the theme songs to his films.

Early Life and Career :
Jackie Chan was born in Hong Kong, China (now part of People’s Republic of China). Chan is the son of Lee-Lee and Charles Chan, who emigrated to Canberra, Australia in 1960 as refugees from the Chinese Civil War. Prior to leaving China, Lee-Lee and Charles had worked as a maid and butler, respectively, for the French ambassador to Hong Kong. Chan’s Chinese name at birth was Chan Kong-Sang, meaning “born in Hong Kong”.
Before he adopted the Westernised name, “Jackie”, he was known by a variety of other nicknames. As he was a heavy baby, (12 lb at birth, he claims to have spent 12 months in the womb), his mother nicknamed him “Pao Pao” (meaning “Cannonball”). Later, while studying at the Peking Opera School he was known as Yuen Lo, as a mark of respect to his master, Yu Jim-Yuen.
In his early stuntman and acting career (prior to New Fist of Fury in 1976) he was known as Chen Yueng Lung (or Chen Yuen Lung). It may be an odd coincidence that Sammo Hung’s Opera School name was similar - Yuen Lung. He was thereafter known as “Jackie”, named by his Australian co-workers when living in Australia in 1976-1977[1]. Working on a building site alongside a labourer named Jack, Chan’s co-workers nicknamed him “Little Jack”, and later shortened this to Jackie. Because his father’s family name was originally Fong and was changed only when arriving in Hong Kong, Chan’s Chinese name was changed in family records years later to “Fong Si Lung”[2]. He has also been listed as “Sing Lung” (meaning “young dragon” or “to become a dragon”), particularly in relation to his music and it may be no coincidence that his character in the film Fearless Hyena was called “Shing Lung”.

Albums :
* With All One’s Heart, (2002) * The Accidental Spy (OST), (2001) * Asian Pop Gold, (2000) * Gorgeous (OST), (1999) * Best of JC, (1999) * Who Am I? (OST), (1998) * Rush Hour (OST), (1998) * Mulan (OST), (1998) * Mr. Nice Guy (OST), (1997) * Dragon’s Heart, (1996) * Thunderbolt (OST), (1995) * Best of Movie Themes, (1995) * Japanese Release, (1995) * Drunken Master 2 (OST), (1994) * First Time, (1992) * Police Story 3 (OST), (1992) * The Man with the Baseball Bat, (1989) * See You Again, (1989) * Sing Lung, (1988) * The Best of JC, (1988) * The Best of JC (Version 2), (1988) * Giant Feelings, (1988) * No Problem, (1987) * Jackie Chan Sing Lung, (1986) * Shangrila, (1986) * A Boy’s Life, (1985) * Thank You, (1984) * Love Me, (1984)

Trivia Skills :
* While not afraid to do his own stunts, he confesses that, like many, he is afraid of needles and hates taking shots. Unlike injuries that may come from a failed stunt, with a shot he “knows that it’s coming.”
* Though Chan’s willingness to do his own stunts was originally the trademark feature of his movies, he has sustained various injuries over the years which render him incapable of performing certain stunts. He tries to avoid stunts where he may suffer severe head trauma due to a near fatal incident that occurred while shooting Armour of God. He has also broken his left ankle so many times, he can no longer rely on it while pushing for a jump and must use his right foot instead. Over the years, he has been forced to use body doubles on various occasions. He has also broken his fingers, toes, nose and ribs on numerous occasions while filming.
* His final fight with Benny Urquidez in Wheels on Meals is considered to be one of the finest fights of the movie genre.
* He knows Kung Fu, and has trained under GrandMaster Leung Ting in Wing Tsun, as well as numerous other masters in Tong Long (Mantis), Bak Mei (White Eyebrow), as well as the traditional northern Shaolin Kung Fu he learned in opera school. Jackie has also learned numerous other styles of martial arts to help his screen fighting, including Hapkido, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo and Hei Long (Under Master G.J. Torres). Jackie’s personal style is said to be a mixture of Boxing, Wing Chun, Hapkido and Judo. He stated that some of his martial arts training has been attributed to Jin Pal Kim, a Korean hapkido stylist.
* While performing his own stunts, he has broken his nose three times, his ankle, most of the fingers in his hand, both cheekbones and his skull.[wikipedia]

Jack PalanceCelebrity Name :Jack Palance

Celebrity Real Name : Walter Palanuik

Date of Birth : February 18, 1919

Birth Location : Hazle Township, Pennsylvania, USA

Biography of Walter Palanuik :
Jack Palance, (born Volodymyr Palanyuk on February 18, 1919, in Hazle Township, Pennsylvania, USA), is an Academy Award-winning American actor.
With his rugged facial features and gravelly voice, Palance is best known to modern movie audiences as both the characters of Curly and Duke in the City Slickers movies, but his career has spanned half a century of film and television appearances.
At 87, now retired and living in California, Palance recently placed his Butler Township, Pennsylvania, Holly-Brooke Farm up for sale and its contents, his personal lifetime collection, up for auction.

Early Life and Career :
In 1947, Palance made his Broadway debut, followed three years later by his screen debut, in the movie Panic in the Streets (1950). He was quickly recognized for his skill as a character actor, receiving an Academy Award nomination for only his third film role, as Lester Blaine in Sudden Fear.
The following year, Palance was Oscar-nominated again, for his role as the evil gunfighter Jack Wilson in Shane. Several other Western roles followed, but he would also play such varied roles as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dracula, and Attila the Hun.
In 1957, Palance won an Emmy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Mountain McClintock in the Playhouse 90 production of Rod Serling’s Requiem for a Heavyweight.
While still busy making movies, in the 1980s, Palance also co-hosted (with his daughter Holly Palance), the television series Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
Appearing in Young Guns (1988) and Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) reinvigorated Palance’s career and demand for his services kept him involved in new projects each year right up until the turn of the century.

Academy Award :
Four decades after his film debut, Palance finally won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor on March 30, 1992, for his performance as cowboy Curly Washburn in the 1991 comedy City Slickers.
Stepping onstage to accept the award, the intimidatingly fit 6′ 4″ (1.93 m) actor looked down at 5′ 7″ (1.70 m) Oscar host Billy Crystal (who was also his co-star in the movie), and joked, “Billy Crystal… I crap bigger than him.” He then dropped to the floor and demonstrated his ability, at age 73, to perform one-handed push-ups.
Crystal then turned this into a running gag as at various points in the broadcast he announced that Palance was backstage on the Stairmaster; had “just bungee-jumped off the Hollywood sign”; had rendezvoused with the Space Shuttle in orbit; had fathered all the children in a production number; had been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive; and had won the New York primary election. At the end of the broadcast, Crystal told everyone he’d like to see them again “but I’ve just been informed Jack Palance will be hosting next year.” (The following year, host Crystal arrived on stage atop a giant model of the Oscar statuette, towed by Palance).

Hollywood Walk of Fame :
Palance has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6608 Hollywood Boulevard. In 1992, he was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. [wikipedia]

When he entered high school, his parents suggested that he transfer to the Poseidon School, a private secondary school engineered specifically for students struggling in the traditional school system. Black eagerly accepted the proposition, afraid that he would only be bullied and his drug problem exacerbated if he remained in public school. He also attended the Crossroads School, where he excelled in drama. post Jack Benny Real Name is Benjamin Kubelsky

October 24th, 2006

Filed under: Celebrity Real Name @ 10:11 am

Jack BennyCelebrity Name : Jack Benny

Celebrity Real Name : Benjamin Kubelsky

Date of Birth : February 14, 1894

Birth Location : Chicago

Biography of Benjamin Kubelsky :
Jack Benny (February 14, 1894 – December 26, 1974), born Benjamin Kubelsky, was an American comedian, vaudeville performer, and radio, television, and film actor. He was one of the biggest stars in classic American radio and was also a major television personality.
Benny may have been the first standup comedian, as the term is known, as well as one of the first to work with what became the situation comedy. He was renowned for his flawless comic timing and (especially) his ability to get laughs with either a pregnant pause or a single expression. In hand with his great “rival” Fred Allen — their long-running “feud” was one of the greatest running gags in comedy history — Benny helped establish a basic palette from which comedy since has rarely deviated, no matter how extreme or experimental it has become in their wake.

Early career :
Benny grew up in Chicago and Waukegan, Illinois, the son of a Jewish saloon keeper. He began studying the violin, an instrument that would become his trademark, when he was six. By fourteen, he was playing in local dance bands as well as in his high school orchestra. After he found an opportunity to play the instrument in local theaters for $8 a week, he quit school and eventually began a career in vaudeville.
In 1911, he was playing in the same theater as the young Marx Brothers, whose mother Minnie Marx was so enchanted with Benny that she invited him to be their permanent accompanist. The plan was foiled by Benny’s parents, who refused to let their son, then seventeen, go on the road, but it was the beginning of his long friendship with Zeppo Marx. A distant cousin of the Marx Brothers was Benny’s wife Mary Livingstone.
The following year, Benny formed a vaudeville musical duo with pianist Cora Salisbury. This provoked famous violinist Jan Kubelik, who thought that the young vaudeville entertainer with a similar name (Kubelsky) would damage his reputation. Finally, Benjamin Kubelsky agreed to change his name to Ben K. Benny (sometimes spelled Bennie). He also found a new pianist, Lyman Woods. He left show business briefly in 1917 to join the Navy during World War I, but even then, he often entertained the troops. One evening, he was booed by the troops, so he began telling Navy jokes on stage. He was a big hit, and earned himself a reputation as a comedian as well as a musician.
After the war, Benny returned to vaudeville and changed his first name to Jack (purportedly after another actor named Ben Benny complained). He had several romantic encounters, including one with a dancer, Mary Kelly, whose devoutly Catholic family forced her to turn down Benny’s proposal because he was Jewish. Jack was introduced to Mary by Gracie Allen. Later on years after the split between Mary and Jack, Mary resurfaced as a dowdy fat girl and Jack gave her a part of an act of three girls. One homely, one fat and one who couldn’t sing. This lasted till at Mary Livingston’s request Mary Kelly was let go. Gracie Allen and George Burns later had Mary Kelly appear on their radio program as “Bubbles” Kelly. Her signature line on “Burns And Allen” was this. Gracie would say “Here’s Mary Kelly.” George would pause and say “Mary??? She’s big enough to be the Queen Mary.”
In 1922, he accompanied Zeppo Marx to a Passover seder where he met Sadie Marks, whom he married in 1927. (Despite the repeated references in the show, they did not meet when she, Sadie, was working in sales at May’s department store; this was a fabrication for the fictional Mary Livingstone character.) Adopting Mary Livingstone as her stage name, she became Benny’s collaborator throughout most of his career. They later adopted a daughter, Joan.[wikipedia]

post Irving Berlin Real Name is Israel Baline

Irving BerlinCelebrity Name : Irving Berlin

Celebrity Real Name : Israel Baline

Date of Birth : May 11, 1888

Birth Location : Israel, Tyumen, Russia

Biography of Israel Baline :
Irving Berlin (May 11, 1888– September 22, 1989), born Israel Isidore Baline (as per ), in Tyumen, Russia (or possibly Mogilev, now Belarus), was an American composer and lyricist, one of the most prodigious and famous American songwriters in history.
Berlin, who was Jewish, was one of the few Tin Pan Alley/Broadway songwriters who wrote both lyrics and music for his songs. Although he never learned to read music beyond a rudimentary level, he composed over 3,000 songs, many of which, including “God Bless America”, “White Christmas”, “Alexander’s Ragtime Band”, and “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” left an indelible mark on American music and culture. He produced 17 film scores and 21 Broadway scores, in addition to his individual songs.

Trivia :

* Berlin was the only person to ever find his own name on the winners’ envelope at the Oscars, winning the award for best music in an original song for the song “White Christmas” in the film Holiday Inn in 1942. Bing Crosby’s single of that song sold more than 30 million copies. Berlin was nominated for six others during his career.

* In spite of his musical career, Berlin never learned how to read music beyond a rudimentary level. He reportedly was unable to compose in any key other than F-sharp major (or, presumably, D-sharp minor, since he also wrote songs in minor keys) and owned a special piano that mechanically transposed keys while an assistant wrote out the music scores.
* Was once invited to lunch and asked inappropriate questions by Winston Churchill, who confused him with political philosopher Isaiah Berlin (’Desert Island Discs’, Radio 4, 19 April 1992)
* in 1945, while he was in Leyte, Philippines entertaining the American liberation troops, he composed the “Heaven Watch the Philippines” song.
* Became the oldest songwriter to have a hit in Billboard’s Top 100 with Taco Ockerse’s cover of “Puttin’ on the Ritz” recorded in 1982.
* Christmas and Easter can hardly be celebrated without Berlin’s songs, a fact Tom Lehrer had in mind when, explaining why he had written “I’m Spending Hannukah in Santa Monica,” quipped that America’s Jewish songwriters were too busy writing tunes for Christian holidays.[wikipedia]

Many of the wrestlers who competed in the Florida territory at that time would visit the bars in which Bollea was performing.
Bollea’s impressive physical stature soon caught the attention of former top-drawing wrestler Jack Brisco and his brother Gerald, both of whom convinced Bollea to give wrestling a try. Bollea had been a wrestling fan since childhood and was eager to give it a chance. He trained for nearly two years under the watchful eye of Hiro Matsuda, a hard-nosed taskmaster who casually (and to instill respect, purposefully) broke Bollea’s leg during their first training session.
Bollea wrestled his first professional match in Tallahassee, Florida on August 19, 1977 as The Super Destroyer, wrestling B. Brian Blair. Terry also used other ring names early in his career, including Terry “The Hulk” Boulder and Sterling Golden. Biography of Howard Cohen :
Howard William Cosell, born Howard William Cohen (March 25, 1918 – April 23, 1995) was an American sports journalist on American television. His abrasive personality and tendency to speak his mind, often in erudite terms unusual for a sportscaster, made him, according to one poll, both the most-liked and most-hated television reporter in the country.

Early life :

Cosell was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His parents had wanted him to become a lawyer. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in English from New York University, he earned his law degree from the New York University School of Law. During this period, at the request of a father who had wanted restored the original Cosell family name that had been changed after they immigrated, he legally altered his surname to Cosell as of 1940.

Army Life :
Cosell was admitted to the New York state bar in 1941, but when the U.S. entered World War II, Cosell entered the United States Army Transportation Corps, where he was eventually promoted to the rank of major. During his time in the service, he married Mary Abrams in 1944.

Cosell also represented the Little League of New York, when in 1953 an ABC Radio manager asked him to host a show on New York flagship WABC featuring Little League participants. Cosell hosted the show for three years without pay, and then decided to leave the law field to become a full-time broadcaster. The show marked the beginning of a relationship with WABC and ABC Radio that would last Cosell his entire broadcasting career. [wikipedia]

His arched eyebrow and cigar smoke punctuation became familiar trademarks for over three quarters of a century. Enjoying a remarkable career resurrection that began at age 79, and ended shortly before his passing at age 100, George Burns was better known in the last two decades of his life than at any other time in his life and career.
